Arlington Youth

 Welcome

This Small Grants program is designed to encourage caring adults and youth to formulate and conduct small community service projects in Arlington or in AISD schools. Each project should focus on meeting at least one of the five promises in America's Promise and offer youth learning opportunities while identifying and solving community problems. Each Small Grant proposal must also be endorsed by the leadership of their sponsoring organization (agency, school, church or Club) or by a supporting Kiwanian.

Eligible citizens may apply for these grants by completing and submitting the online grant application prior to the March 7, 2008 deadline. Winners will be notified by March 17th if their proposal has been selected for funding. They must be able to attend an awards ceremony that will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, March 28, 2008 (City Hall). Proposed projects must normally be completed prior to November 30th.

 Planning Your Project

  1. There are three things you should do prior to formulating a project:
    • Review each of the text boxes located to the right of this page.
    • Review the five promises listed on the America’s Promise website
    • Look at example projects on this site.
    • Prepare a list of projects that help youth serve their community for normally $300 or less.
  2. Decide which project will best and be indorsed by your volunteer organization of a Kiwanian
  3. Prepare your list of materials and determine prices, determine when to actually start the project
  4. Submit your grant application prior to the deadline (March 7th), providing the name and position of the person indorsing your project.

View Video from Global Youth Service Day (GYSD)

During GYSD, 39 youth groups (1050 people) where busy doing projects in their neighborhood. When they arrived at the closing ceremony in Vandergriff Park they were  interviewed by City Council Member Lana Wolff, AISD Superintendent Hector Montenegro, or Emcee Cheryel Carpenter. It was a great delight to see these interviews and learn about the great youth we have in Arlington. These internviews may be seen during comming week on the AISD TV Cable Channel 98 or by going to this link: http://www.aisd.net/video/Conversations/Conversations_117.html .

Please pass this link on to other members of your community that may know these youth. Help us celeberate our great youth and what they accomplished on GYSD
